After experiencing a 9% decrease in fully electric vehicle deliveries in 2025, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) has yielded its top EV maker title to China's BYD Co. Ltd. (OTC: BYDDY) (OTC: BYDDF). Tesla's sales dropped from 1.79 million units in 2024 to 1.64 million units in 2025. This decline was influenced by heightened competition, particularly from Chinese competitors, and the conclusion of U.S. federal EV tax credits that once boosted demand. In contrast, BYD excelled with a 28% surge in pure EV sales, achieving 2.26 million deliveries in 2025. The significant growth of the Chinese automaker was driven by aggressive international expansion efforts.
