A recent report reveals that the global smartphone market experienced a 5.4% year-over-year decline in shipments during the second quarter of 2021, with only 329.7 million units shipped worldwide. The top five smartphone vendors in terms of market share were Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo. Samsung maintained its lead with 18.8% market share, followed closely by Apple with 15.1%. Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo rounded out the top five with 14.5%, 10.6%, and 10.1% market share respectively. Despite the overall decline in shipments, Xiaomi managed to achieve the highest year-over-year growth among the top vendors at 86.8%. The report attributes the industry-wide shipment decline to ongoing supply chain challenges and the impact of the global chip shortage.
