France is currently facing a surge in kidnappings targeting cryptocurrency entrepreneurs, which is not only tarnishing the country's image but is also becoming a matter of political concern, affecting both the government and a potential presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. The recent uptick in ransom kidnappings has caused unease within France's crypto sector and the administration under President Emmanuel Macron. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, speculated to run for the presidency, is particularly impacted by these events. A police operation led to the arrest of seven suspects following a kidnapping incident earlier this month. Yet, these occurrences, alongside similar incidents, are unsettling the cryptocurrency industry and the political landscape in France. Retailleau held a closed-door meeting with crypto entrepreneurs last Friday to discuss the situation further.
