In a recent report, it was revealed that the global carbon dioxide emissions have reached a record high of over 40 billion tons in 2020, despite the lockdown measures imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The emissions rose by approximately 4% compared to the previous year. The increase was primarily driven by China, whose emissions increased by 1.7%, and India, whose emissions rose by 2%. The United States, on the other hand, experienced a decrease in emissions by 10%, the largest among all major economies. Experts warn that urgent action is needed to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to prevent further environmental damage.
